The harbor of Fall River in Massachusetts has always been one of the county's greatest assets. That is because the body of water has been instrumental for the existing operations of the Port of Fall River. Through the port is only second to the port in Boston when it comes to cargo volumes, the Port of Fall River has always been useful and effective in bringing about appropriate shipping services to clients. The current Port of Fall River is in the exact site of the defunct Old Fall River Line, which was a steamship services facility. The name Port of Fall River came into usage when the current terminal operator, Fall River Line Pier, started business in 1954. Through the years, the port has been significant in the facilitation of basic cargo operations, handling basic and usual goods like bananas, wallboard, wood pulp, chemicals, newspaper and fresh and frozen seafood. To this day, the port is still widely known as a specialist in breakbulk cargoes. The Port of Fall River has also been known as a port that is reliant on revenues from exporting equipment and vehicles. For quite some time, there are some improvement projects that are currently being developed for expansion of port activities in the facility. Such activities include the building of more terminals and the accommodation of sophisticated cruise ships. |
