The seaport city of Duluth in the state of Minnesota is very much alive in maritime trade and commerce with the existence and continued operations of the Port of Duluth. Being an inland seaport, the port is one of the largest of its kind in the whole world. The Port of Duluth is one of the most important dock facilities in the region. The port has been known around the vicinity as the Port of Duluth-Superior. That is because originally, the port that evolved from the harbor where the current port is now has been shared by Minnesota along with the state of Wisconsin. As can be inferred, Duluth is the area of the port within the territories of Minnesota and Superior is the area covered by Wisconsin. The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is the main port operator and manager that has been tasked and assigned to promote the collective and overall interests of the port. The authority is an independent but still public agency created by state legislation in 1955 for the purpose of maintaining and managing the Port of Duluth. As such, the body's main mission is to create and improve facilities in the port that are instrumental to its economic and environmental development. |
