Geographical Position: Located in the north of Beibu Gulf, in the south of Guangxi Province, with Longitude 21 37' 56'' N, latitude 108 21'13'' E. The water area of Fangchenggang Port is surrounded by hills in 3 sides, just like an inland lake and it is good for wind sheltering. Natural Condition: 1. Climate Temperature: The annual average temperature is 22.5(deg. C). The annual extreme high temperature is 36.5(deg. C). The maximum temperature mostly happens in July when the average is 27.6(deg. C)-29.1(deg. C). The annual extreme low temperature is 2.8(deg. C), mostly appears in the end of winter and beginning of spring. Rainfall: About 71% of rainfall is in June to September. The annual maximum rainfall is 3,111.9mm and the minimum is 1,745.6mm, the annual average rainfall is 2,362.6mm. Daily maximum rainfall reaches 244.1 mm. In one year, there are about 26.5 days with average daily rainfall 25mm. In one year, there are averagely 85.2 days with thunderstorm. Wind: The normal wind direction is North North East, about 30.5% for one year. 8.4% are West South. 4.7% are east strong wind. The wind force is normally not strong inside the port area because the sea area is surrounded by hills. The average annual wind speed is 5m/s, the highest speed reaches 20m/s. The tropical storm comes once per year in average n 3 times per year at most, which appeared in June to September mostly and the wind force can reach grade 8 to grade 10. The strong wind normally last for half day or one day, at most 2 days. Fog: Foggy days are rare, about 10 days in a year in average. It recorded 23 days of foggy days in maximum in a year and 4 days in minimum. Fog normally appear in the evening or early morning in the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Dense fog seldom appears. The morning fog normally last 2-3 hours and will disperse in sunrise. 2. Hydrology Tide: Irregular mixed semi-diurnal tide. Averagely, neap tide comes forth for 6-8 days and the other days come regular diurnal tide per month. The grand tide and mid tide are both regular diurnal tide and the neap tide is irregular semi-diurnal tide. In the period of the diurnal tide, the highest tide rises up to 5.54m; the average high tide reaches 3.82m, maximum tide difference is 5.39m, and the average tide difference is over 4.5m. The tide rising period lasts 15 hours and the tide falling period lasts 9 hours, which is good for the channel dredging. In the period of the semidiurnal tide, the tidal range is less than 1 m; the lowest tide is 0.79m. The tide last 2 hours in one year record: 2.8m, 338 days. 3m, 315 days. 3.5m, 251 days. 4m, 140 days. 4.5m, 28 days. Tideway: The sea current in Fangchenggang Port is constituted and affected by the sea tide, river current and wind current. The river names Fangcheng River, which affects the sea current in typhoon period for several days and it affects the sea current slightly in normal days. The sea tide governs the sea current. When the tide rises, the current speed is slow with maximum speed 0.4-0.6m/second. When the tide falls, the current speed is higher with maximum speed 0.6-0.9m/second. The reversing current direction fits the channel direction mostly except there is anticlockwise rotary current near the Sanya light house outside the channel entrance. Wave: With the Qisha Peninsula in the east and Jiangshan Bailong Peninsula in the west, the sea water in port area normally appears calm. There are wave with grade 4-5 in typhoon period in July to September but appeared not often. The normal average wave height is 0.5 m; normal direction is North East, 21% in a year. 16.4% towards South East. 15.4% towards South and 12.8% towards North East. Rough sea is towards South South West. The secondary rough sea is towards South East. The highest wave height can be 7 m in storm. F. Hinterland: With the operations of Nanning-Kunming railway, the cargo from Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi and Chongqing can be transported to Fangchenggang Port and then to be carried there to the world. The direct hinterland of Fangchenggang Port is Fangchenggang City, Qinzhou City, the south area by Hongshui River along Nanning-Kunming Railway inside Guangxi Province, Baise, Nanning, the southwest area of Nanning Region. The indirect hinterland is the other area in Guangxi Province, the whole Yunnan Province, Guizhou Province, Sichuan Province, the southwest area of Chongqing Municipality and the west part of the Mid China.
